Hydraulic thrust Of the Rotary Kiln
When the rotary kiln is equipped with
a hydraulic thrust device, its supporting rollers must, in principle, be
parallel to the kiln axis so that rolling exclusively without axial reaction
takes place between supporting roller and tire.
In actual practice this is not
achievable and, the supporting rollers should there fore be oriented so that
they all have a slight tendency to force the kiln upward.
Not all the axial thrust from the
kiln, down toward the outlet end of the kiln and caused by the kiln slope
should be taken by the thrust roller stations.
The tires with supporting
rollers and bearings form the contact surface for the rotary kiln tube- .
During erection, thermal expansion of the kiln tube is duly considered and the supporting rollers are offset by dimension 'x' relative to the tire center.
- Thermal expansion of a tube, above all for
rotary kilns, is subjected to substantial fluctuations caused e.g. by formation
of accretions as well as by the ambient temperature (summer – winter).
Fluctuations up to 150 °C up to frequently occur in the sintering zone i.e.
between assembly II and III.
- Example: shell temperature 250 or 400 °C
(corresponding to T=150 °C) at a tube length of 28 m, resulting in a difference
in length due to thermal expansion of 50 mm.
- The dimensions given in the erection drawings
are based on imperial values, obtained by several hundred kiln installations.
For the shell temperature of approximately 320 °C in sintering zone entailing a
difference in length of ( + or – 25 mm )compared with the above mentioned
extreme value (50 mm at 250 °C or 400 °C). These 25 mm are considered a
permissible tolerance and needn't to be corrected.
